We started philosophy with grade 4 students. The first unit we discussed Friday was "What is brave" from the story Dragon and Giants from the book Frog and Toad Together. Calum explained to us the difference between a frog and a toad which was a great start.

We are using the book Big Ideas for Kids, Teaching Philosophy Through Children's Literature by Thomas E. Wartenberg.
It was a very lively discussion which unfolded pretty much like our phi discussions at Bishop's U.

Next step will be to write a short explanation of their ideas, written clearly, supporting them in a logical fashion.

The assignment for the currrent grade 4 book Holes, will not be a book report but a philosophical exploration of one of the many themes in the book. We will learn how to do that in more details as we explore more philosophical themes
in class.

It was so good and so fun you can't imagine!
I got the idea of doing phi with students from Griffin McK's mom one day in an e-mail. I explored the possibility and wouldn't you know it, it is a fast growing movement. And it works so I'm pretty much in heaven.
