Area 34 is thinking of camping

Area 34 went camping two years ago at Albion Hill Conservation area. We had a fantastic time and lots of great learning opportunities.   http://www.reservations.trca.on.ca/en/map.cgi?p=262&g=784&lstr=AlbionBirchHill

This year we will propose to the superintendent that we go camping at Albion Hills again.
The schedule that coordinates best with the TDSB calendar is;
leave school approximately 9:30am Wednesday June 12, and
vacate camp by 11am Friday June 14.

Each student will need their own gear; tents, sleeping bags, etc. We will talk about this later and have a comprehensive checklist.

The cost is;
   $27 per night for 1 site with 1 car and 2 people.
   $5 per night for each additional person, and
   $10 per night for each additional car.
There is no electricity where we will be. We also found that an area for the public is less expensive than a school site.
2 years ago, many families came with us; siblings and parents. Some stayed the night, others stayed for some activities and went back home. What we need is a count for each night to settle the bill.

Parents are required to accompany if;
   a sibling comes,
   a pooch comes. Dogs are allowed on leash or, if we find that we are the only ones (as was the case 2 years ago) dogs who would never stray, can be off leash.

Spruce Cove is the camping area we enjoyed, an enclosed area made up of 11 sites. We hope to reserve this same area again this year. While the students engaged in activities, parent teams took turns preparing meals or helped supervise activities. Meals are communal, enjoyed by everyone, cooked on stoves, bbq, and the campfire itself.

Parent teams are needed to prepare:
Wednesday: evening meal, night snack
Thursday: breakfast, mid day meal, snack, dinner, night snack
Friday: breakfast, light lunch.

I did an eyes-closed survey today asking who might be a little scared about such a trip; 4 students said possibly.
Albion Hills is a safe place, we are safe, and we will be safe with many of us around. Encourage your child if you sense some hesitation. Let me know if you feel you need to discuss something with me.

With all of your help, we will have another tremendous outing.

We need a group e-mail list to communicate among us. Please send me an e-mail at sylvie.deschamps-scaife@tdsb.on.ca and I will make a group from there.
